In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses a lot of different language features, one of these are metaphors. Metaphors are used to describe something by using another meaning.
In this play, Lady Capulet tries to convince Juliet to become a mother with Paris and describes him as a book to be read by Juliet. “This precious book of love, this unbound lover, to beauty him only lacks a cover”
What Lady Capulet was saying is there are many benefits towards marrying Paris and she is the “cover” to him as he is the book.
Quinn, this is a good analysis of that metaphor. Can I ask you now to use the same approach to analyse the new metaphor I presented you with in class. You can go back to the class website to remind yourself of what that was: http://paradox.edutronic.net/2019/03/04/romeo-and-juliet-act-1-scene-2-metaphor/
