Romeo And Juliet: Summary

Romeo and Juliet come from two different families. These families are also arch rivals. Juliets mum and dad wanted her to marry a man called Paris. Romeo was in love with a woman called Rosaline, that all changed when he saw Juliet. It was love at first sight and before they even exchanged 100 words they were prepared to have a wedding.

Once they had their wedding both Capulet and Lady Capulet were soon to find out. Tybalt got into a battle with Mercutio, Tybalt came out victorious. Romeo had to avenge his friend so he battled against Tybalt until he died. Romeo was banished from Verona because of it.

Romeo and Juliet’s love still strong, they had to find a way to still be together even if it means giving up other things. Capulet and Lady Capulet were preparing for Juliet’s wedding. Juliet was doing everything in trying to stop the wedding.

Juliet goes to Friar Lawrence to get a plan allowing her to not marry Paris. Their plan was to make Juliet drink a mysterious potion that increases her sleep time making her look dead, then Romeo was meant to go and save her. Friar told his brother to get the letter about the plan to Romeo, that is when the plan went overboard.

Romeo did not get the letter but gets a different letter saying Juliet is dead. He rushes to her tomb and drinks a potion of poison, killing him. Juliet then wakes up to see his dead corpse in front of her, she then kills herself too.Both families find out about this incident and pledge to end all of their grudges between each another.

Summary: Act 5 Scene 2

TIME: Wednesday morning

PLACE: Friar Lawrence’s cell

CHARACTERS: Friar Lawrence, Friar John

Friar John goes to his brothers cell, failed to deliver the letter to Romeo. Now Romeo thinks that Juliet is actually dead, when she is only in a deep sleep according to Friar Lawrence.

QUOTE: “Of dear import, and neglecting it may do much danger” Said by Mr Lawrence, meaning if Romeo does not receive the letter calamity will break loose.

Summary: Act 5 Scene 1

TIME: Wednesday morning

PLACE: Mantua

CHARACTERS: Romeo, Balthasar, Apothecary

Romeo did not get the message about the plan Friar Lawrence and Juliet were doing. He then finds out that she is “dead” It is only Friar and Juliet that know about the plan.

QUOTE: “There is thy gold, worse poison to men’s souls” Said by Romeo, meaning money is one of the most dangerous things known to man. Some people can have too much money.

SCENE 4:

TIME: Wednesday morning

PLACE: Capulets house

CHARACTERS: Lady Capulet, Nurse, Capulet, Servingmen

Capulet and the servingmen prepare for Juliets wedding with Paris. Juliet is not awake yet. They do not know about the potion she took.

QUOTE: “The country will be here with music straight” Said by Capulet, meaning most people in Verona will be attending the wedding so there will be lots of music.

SCENE 5:

TIME: Wednesday morning

PLACE: Juliets bedroom

CHARACTERS: Nurse, Lady Capulet, Paris, Musicians, Peter

The Nurse was ordered to wake Juliet but finds she is dead. They now want to prepare her a funeral. They are confused on how Juliet died.

QUOTE: “Ready to go, but never to return” Said by Capulet, meaning she has gone to heaven and will never return.

Summary: Act 4 Scene 2 And 3

SCENE 2:

TIME: Tuesday afternoon

PLACE: Capulets House

CHARACTERS: Capulet, Servingman, Nurse, Lady Capulet

Capulet is so exited for the wedding he makes the schedule a whole day earlier. Juliet will marry Paris tomorrow.

QUOTE: “Against tomorrow. My heart is wonderous light” Said by Capulet, meaning he cannot wait for tomorrow as that is the day of the wedding.

SCENE 3:

TIME: Tuesday night

PLACE: Juliets bedroom

CHARACTERS: Nurse, Juliet, Lady Capulet

Juliet lays in her bed and takes the potion that will increase the amount of time she sleeps.

QUOTE: “Farewell! God knows when we shall meet again” Said by Juliet, meaning she hopes to see Romeo once she wakes up from the sleeping potion.

TIME: Tuesday Morning

PLACE: Friar’s Cell

CHARACTERS: Juliet, Paris, Friar Lawrence

Juliet despises of Paris and would do anything to not marry him. Her and Friar try to think up a plan on how to get out of marrying him. Friar gives Juliet a potion to increase the amount of time she sleeps so therefor Paris assumes she is dead.

QUOTE: “Hold, daughter, I do spy a kind of hope” Said by Friar Lawrence, meaning he thinks he’s got a plan to get Juliet out of marrying Paris.

Summary: Act 3 Scene 4 And 5

SCENE 4:

TIME: Evening

PLACE: Capulets house

CHARACTERS: Lady Capulet, Capulet, Juliet

Lady Capulet was talking to Juliet about her getting married to Paris but both Lady Capulet and Capulet didn’t know about her marriage with Romeo. They soon find out and despise of her.

QUOTE: “Prepare her, wife, against this wedding day” Said by Capulet, meaning they will be getting Juliet prepared for the upcoming wedding ceremony with Paris

SCENE 5:

TIME: Early morning

PLACE: Juliets bedroom

CHARACTERS: Juliet, Romeo, Nurse, Lady Capulet, Capulet

Romeo was talking to Juliet about him being banished from Verona. Romeo nearly got caught sneaking into her room by Lady Capulet.

QUOTE: “The vaulty heaven so high above our heads” Said by Romeo, meaning heaven is above their heads yet very far away from them

Summary: Act 3 Scene 3

TIME: Night

PLACE: Friar Lawrences Cell

CHARACTERS: Romeo, Friar Lawrence

The Prince declared Romeo to be banished from Verona because he murdered a Capulet; He then discussed this matter to Friar Lawrence to come up with a plan to prevent his banishment.

QUOTE: “To comfort thee, though thou art banished” Said by Friar Lawrence, meaning he will try to protect Romeo from the banishment.
